Looking for best new PC

Hi,
My computer is seven years old, a Pentium2, 266 Mhz with CD/disk drive, windows 98. Need I say more? My 12 year old needs new applications for school and multi media capabilities. I know next to nothing. Can you help me to choose a system and tell me what to stay away from?

you say he is 12 years old how much power is he going to need not much lol just get him a basic dell or some thing like that

Yeah just go out and buy him a $300-500 dell or something. No point custom building a new PC if he isn't going to be heavily playing games.
