I recently cracked my laptop screen leaving me with only a slight visible window which i'm typing this from. I tried hooking it up to an external LCD monitor and the green light comes indicating it is working but the image is so faint that its almost impossible to tell what is on the screen. Its not a problem with the brightness or contrast or any settings like that. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be or how to remedy it?

It's unusual for it to not work on the LCD. You did change the laptop display properties to show on the LCD correct? It could be the brightness on the laptop OR the LCD, make sure you check both. Also, try a different monitor.
Otherwise I'm guessing it's more than just a cracked screen issue. I would take to backing up all my data while you can still "see" what you are doing.
