Hello,

I am searching for a 23" LCD monitor which has a really high contrast ratio. I do not mean Dynamic Contrast Ratio, either. What I'm looking for is the true contrast ratio, sometimes called a typical contrast ratio.

I have checked out Newegg and it seems most of their monitors are out dated, hence the low prices. The highest I can seem to find to purchase is 1000:1 CR (typical) with 5,000,000 DC. I've searched elsewhere online but most articles I find are from 1+ years ago, so I would like to see whats new this year.

Does anyone know what monitor has the highest available true contrast ratio? Oh yeah, I will be using this monitor for 3D modeling and rendering, so I would like something top notch. Also.. price is not a priority.

Thank you!

Are you looking for a professional grade monitor? If so, the specifications listed on these models are usually very accurate compared to lower priced consumer models.

...and if you're able to get a hold of one, Apple Cinema Displays are also used and well regarded by media professionals.

Thank you for your suggestions, but those have 1000:1 or lower contrast ratio. I would like to find something more, since I know LCD technology allows it.

I just like that size of monitor. If I can find something 25" or less which has a high contrast ratio, I will be happy. That Acer is 10,000:1 ACM which is Adaptive Contrast Management, the same idea as Dynamic Contrast Ratio. Acer doesn't market their true contrast ratio of their monitors. But with some research found nothing over 1000:1 CR from Acer. Every monitor I've found which has a high contrast ratio such as.. 50,000:1 (DC, DCR, ACM, ASCR, etc) is usually 1000:1 (true, typical, CR) In my opinion, monitors with true/typical contrast ratios higher than 1000:1 HAVE to exist somewhere. There are LCD TV's with 5000:1 true contrast ratio.

The reason I am so picky with the contrast ratio is, because with AutoCAD I'm looking at a black canvas all day with thousands of lines made up of hundreds of colors. Lines are usually the width of a pixel. Anytime I've seen a monitor with a higher contrast ratio, it's been easier to distinguish the colors and is not so hard on the eyes.

You should stop focusing on that specification alone. I don't think computer monitors have been truthfully able to go above the current contrast ratio. Most professionals are fine with the monitors mentioned above.

Yeah I know. I'm trying to gather information from people who might know more than me about this aspect. I'm not being stubborn and only focusing on that detail. I'm only talking about contrast ratio because I don't know anything about it. I understand all of the other aspects.

How much are you looking to spend? Although price may not be a priority, it's good to know around how much you are looking to spend. There are many professional grade monitors made with high contrast ratios in mind that go upwards of $2000 dollars. I'm assuming you don't need a 134% Adobe RGB Colour monitor.

NEC makes some of the most gorgeous monitors I've ever seen. Truly professional stuff.
