Hope someone can help. My daughters laptop seems to have some kind of viral infection. Firstly her machine stopped recognising the cd/dvd drive. Now it is locked in a loop where it starts to open windows and then goes into a screen with safe mode options etc. Regardless of what I then select, windows won't open. It does display an error message but it comes and goes so quickly I can't see what it says. I think it may be a Blaster worm type of thing but I don't know how to sort it. Can anyone help? PS I don't know too much about these things so simple to follow instructions would be great.

Have you tried last known configuration. If not then press F8 repeatedly when you turn the computer on. you will get a screen select it there and see what happens. If that doesnt work, then do the F8 thing again, but this time select the step by step option (cant remember the name off top of my head) let us know at what point it goes wrong and the error you receive
