Laptop Battery

I own a Latitude D620 notebook from Dell and I have noticed recently that I am getting only over an hour of battery life on a full charge. This is with the display dimmed and no excessive programs running. The wireless is on as is avg control center right now and the battery is reading 1:10 (99%) remaining. I am running windows XP which I recently installed again. I have not exposed the notebook to any extreme conditions in the past 4 months that I have had it. Any ideas how I can fix this issue? I need it to last through class so I can take notes.

do you constantly leave it plugged in, like a cell phone battery if you charge it without it being completely uncharged it could effect the ability of it being able to hold a charge.

No I don't always leave it plugged in, I charge it only when needed.

What should one do if it is completely charged, but you don't want the battery to be used? How should you leave it then???
