Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help.
How powerful is this CPU? Is it better than a Dual Core T9900 (at 3Ghz), Is there a desktop CPU to whose performance that one could compare it to?

I am looking at getting a laptop and have seen this cpu in one of dell's alienware builds.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks

For basic computation, a Dual Core at 3GHz would easily beat an i7 Quad Core at 1.6GHz.

However, as you get into multi-threaded applications, this would alter greatly.

Just in general, I'd say you're better off with the faster Dual Core, but we need to know what the computer will be used for.

Uses:

A bit of gaming, (pro evo soccer, football manager, civilization).
Rest is just internet/watch movies/ spreadsheets

Cheers.

Go for the i7. With turbo boost, it goes up to 2.8Ghz. The DDR3 memory will give it a nice boost and the 4 logical cores will help too. You need to worry more about the graphics card than the processor. What model laptop are you looking at?
