I need help with my (external) HDD!

Hey everyone,

I purchased a external HDD a while ago and the other day I plugged it into a USB that had too much power going through it, which pretty much melted or fried the drive (well I think so).
I took out the HDD from the case and put it into my PC. When the BIOS is loading, the HDD is detected but when I try to boot from it, it says "An error has occured - press CTRL + ALT + DEL" or something along the lines of that. When I try to install Windows XP onto it, it fails.

Can someone help me out? Thanks.

Format the drive.

I've tried formatting it and after I've formatted it I've tried to install windows XP onto it.. that wouldn't work..
