how do i tell what programs are running.?

my computer seems to be running very sluggish , even though i have a fast internet service. is there a way i can tell what programs are running in the background and how can i close out the ones i dont ned to be running. how would i be able to tell which programs need to be running and which programs dont need to be.

go to Windows Task Manager - Press CTRL+ALT+DEL

i can get to that point. is that what makes the computer run slower than usual. when i go to task manager and under processes. there is a big list of items in there. do they all need to be running?

depends if there are multiples open close them, make sure THAT YOU DON"T CLOsE SYSTEM TASKS. but things like iexplorer sometimes has multiple sessions running and need to be cloased.
