help, screen goes black at startup

Hello, every time i boot up my comp, it seems to boot fine, but then after a minute or so the screen just goes black, i think i narrowed it down to the motherboard or the processor, does anybody know where the problem is or how to fix it, the comp is older if that helps, thanks

Have you checked the video card. It could possibly be a driver issue. When exactly does the screen go blank?

yeah its your video card ... boot into safe mode and reinstall your card drivers.

Simple to fix...

If it's what I think it is then here's how to fix it.
I think it's the cards getting hot and walking out of the slot. All it takes is one broken connection and it stops working. With all power off, remove the hold down screw and remove the card. Look along the flange where the monitor connector is to see if it is straight. If not be careful and gently warp it back to straight. Reseat the card and put the hold down screw back in. Snug it don't ram it tight. Now connect the monitor back up and reboot.
Being an older setup it possibly has not got good air flow and things are getting warm in there. If possible look in to a better fan or adding some others.
