Opty 165 if you're getting a good stepping and plan on overclocking it. I've heard Newegg has been shipping out some good ones, but I can't confirm it. They're known to go over 2.8 easily with CCBBE 0616 XPMW and some good cooling. But if you're not overclocking, get the X2.

Well i am not much of an overclocker.

i Prefer Stability > Performance

But your saying that the 165 can go to 2.8 no problem.....

The X2 is @ 2.2 so if i push the opty165 up to 2.2,

It should be easily able to handle that load and more (on air cooling), and would offer the same performance as the X2?

the board i will be using is this. Kn8 Ultra

Maybe the E6300? Or do you want to stick with amd?
Out of those, I'd go for the Opteron 165.

No i wanna stick with AMD

dont wanna swap my memory or board.

But i have been doing some reading and answering many of my own questions...

I am lazy sometimes.

The Opteron 165 It is.

Thanks for the Input guys.

I don't think that mobo supports opterons. Not 100% sure though.

Now that I checked newegg, it says
Supported CPU
CPU Socket Type Socket 939
CPU Type Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64

so not sure if it supports the x2 processors either..

though then again the fx is also a dual core.. But on other mobos like this

there is
CPU Type AMD Opteron/Athlon 64 FX/ Athlon 64 X2/ Athlon 64

It shows it supports the X2 Dual Core Processor Series

http://www.abit.com.tw/test_report/KN8_Series/

and the Toledo core, Which from what i think is pretty much the same core the Opty has correct??

EDIT: I think it will, i will even take my chances ordering it. Worse comes to worse.... ahhh i dont wanna think about that right now...
