Would it be possible to hook up an ide cable from the inside of a laptop to an external hard drive? thanks much!

ok course, as long as it has a power supply to it. I've done it before and used the power supply of one PC to energy the hard drive of another system's PC. You just have to make sure the :ther:: hard drive is energized before you start the PC, otherwise the system may not recognize it.
