hard disk getting slower

I have Intel D845GEBV2 motherboard with p4 1.8 ghz 512 mb ram

On the primary IDE I have

Master: SAMSUNG SP0802N 80 gb(win xp sp2 installed here)
Slave: BENQ DVD DD DW1620

On the secondary Ide I have
Master: seagate ST3160812A 160 gb
Slave: ATAPI CD-RW 52X24

I recently added the new seagate ST3160812A 160gb hard disk

but after that I got ATAPI Error Parity error on the hard drive
which was due to an ATA66 hard drive that is set to use DMA (direct memory access)
transfer mode, and ATA66 DMA transfer mode is not supported by the computer's onboard IDE.

so I set it to PIO mode after which the error is not coming but
my computer slows down whenever there is data transfer to/from the 160 gb hard drive.

also the transfers are much slower within the 160 gb drive than that within the 80 gb drive

is there any soluton to this

the ata dma for your seagate should be 133ata where are you getting ata66 from are all the settings in bios correct when you do a hard drive aouto detect if not do a manual and set the correct heads and cyliners this info can be found on your hard drive.these are good drives and have great speed and tranfer rates.do you have any other hard drives in there.it may be worth considering changing the ide cable for a new one if it is a old onr you are using.
