Ok... This is my first attempt to build my own computer. I just purchased all the parts from newegg.com. I would like to leave a list of the parts and then get your guys thoughts. The purpose of this computer is to play the new age games (e.g Half Life 2 and Galaxies). Will these parts do the job? Here is a list of the parts that are going into my computer:

Lian- Li bay silver aluminum case

Western digital 250gb 7200RPm sata hard drive

corsair xms extreme memory speed serires, 184 pin 1 gb

asus I915p chipset motherbpard for intel

intel pentium 4 3.40E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1 md L@ cache w/ hyper threading technology

creative labs sound blaster audigy 2

msi nvidia ge force 6800 video card, 256mb ddr, 256-bit, tv out/ dvi, pci-express,

Thermaltake Silent PurePower, 420W ATX power supply.UL, CSA, TUV, CE Approved. Intel Pentium 4 Compliant

Samsung 16X DVD±RW, Model TS-H552B/WBCH Black, OEM Bulk

What do u guys think and will it work to play new aged games?

if your going gaming get an AMD processor and motherboard. I picked an AMD price equivalent to the motheboard and processor that you picked that are compatible with your the rest of your computer. Although im 99% sure the parts im about to list will work with your computer, wait for someone else to verify that extra %1.

MOTHERBOARD[this is if your using an AGP Slot graphics card]:

And don't think because the intel has a 3.4 ghz and the amd has 2.2 ghz that the pentium is better. AMD uses 64 bit technology, and 2.2 ghz amd translates to around 3.6-3.8 ghz in a pentium 4 processor. An AMD processor and motherboard setup thrives in gaming, while still easily being able to run every day tasks (and even more complicated tasks) with great ease. This AMD Processor is very top of the line, and comes with a heatsink and fan. I don't see thermal compound on their, won't he need that?

go for a AMD 64BIT 3200, AND then the second Motherboard much better, well not the AMD but its cheaper and it will play all the new games ask AMD ZEN he will tell you, And FX is Better for gaming if you aint botherd about the money, any way Gud Luk m8

yea, and get a 6800 GT or 6800 ULTRA video card, cuz the 6800 is .... not too good, or if u get PCI E with SLI u can get 2x 6600GT's, or the 6800 gt/ultras (make sure to get 2 of the EXACT same gfx cards if u gonna do sli)

errr only problem with SLI is that drivers have to be made for each game you want to play to even use the sli features/full capability of the card.

i know half life 2 is supported, but not all of them are, might want to take that into consideration and maybe just save up some money for an ATI x800 or stick with the graphics card your going with. Nothing wrong with the single card he's got though.

yea, but the 6800 isnt that great, if only using a single stick, i would go with x800 XTor plat, or the X850 XT :) just what i would use, anything that dun ahve, GT, ULTRA, PRO, XT, or XT platinum edition, i wouldnt really want to buy :) now if only i could get the money to get one myself
