Firefox Registry Problem

I've already asked on the Firefox official forums, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I can't start firefox (v1.5.0.6) on Win98SE. I've tried running Firefox in it's Regular and Safe Mode and it will not work. I've also tried running the install again, but that didn't work. I've also tried uninstalling, but the uninstall program never starts. I press CTRL+ALT+Delete and I see the uninstall program just sitting at the bottom of the list.

I've scanned for Viruses and found nothing. I've also ran Registry Mechanic as well. I decided to cancel that because it wanted to remove Registry information for important programs like Norton, Adobe Photoshop, etc. This is the error message I get when I try to start Firefox:

This Program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If this problem persists, contact the program vendor.
