I got this info from CPU Magazine. AMD is falling behind because while AMD is getting out the traditional DDR2 DIMM modules, Intel's going for the new DDR2 and DDR3 FBDIMM technology. It looks like a processor stuck in the middle of the RAM stick creating a fully buffered dual inline memory module!!! It's a higher density, higher performance memory technolgy waiting to be released sometime this year hopefully by Intel.

The advanced high performance DDR2 800MHz FBDIMM technology is the next generation memory module for servers to start out. Well forget about servers. Intel has a partnership to develop this technology too for consumer desktop PCs!!!!

BOISE, Idaho, April 10, 2006 -- Micron Technology, Inc., (NYSE: MU), a worldwide provider of advanced memory and image sensor solutions, today announced the production availability of its DDR2 fully buffered dual in-line memory module (FBDIMM) solutions. Validated in coordination with Intel Corporation, Micron's FBDIMMs provide new advanced channel features that vastly improve performance in high-speed, high-density applications such as servers, workstations and networking equipment.

Micron made those chips... not Intel, it says Validated By Intel not made by intel

Yes, the FBDIMM stuff. Now, it's going to make inpact.
