OK, where do I begin. Yes I need your help. I have a computer running XP. I installed a new DVD RW and all worked well for a week. Then all went blue, restarting all the time, then nothing, tried to reset up using boot CD for XP, it goes most of way thru, approx 20 minutes to end I either get a message
bios not fully ACPI compliant ....
or
STOP: 0x0000008e
If the DVDRW was working fine for 1 week, could it be this or something else??
Thanks

are you doing a fresh install of xp? if so when you made a partition, did you make shure it is set to active?

if you install the OS on a partition that is not set to active, you will get errors on it, and eventually , your comp. won't be able to read off the hhd...

even though it detects it, and bios detects it. the newer computer's now have updated bios's & will do the active for you automatically.

how old is this comp.? also have you checked bios to make shure all the settings are correct? i would check this 1st , then try the above top.
