DVI switcher necessary?

I hope this is the right forum. Basically what I want to do is take my computer (DVI out) and a PS3(HDMI converted to DVI) and connect both to my monitor via the sole DVI port in the back. I believe that I need a switcher, unfortunately they are EXPENSIVE. Seriously, WTF!? My question is do I actually need the switcher or is there another possibility that is not so ridiculously priced. FYI the vga port is taken by my 360.

Thanks in advance.

Which method did you use to connect the 360 to VGA?

I'm thinking about getting an HDMI -> DVI adapter once I get my PS3. How did you manage the sound?

How did you get the sound working?

you can get a HDMI to DVI adapter, but you cant get sound out of it. since HDMI communiacates video\sound across the same pins, there is no way for the sound\video to go at the same time w\o a controller, which is at the other end of the HDMI cable. i googled things and it came up with no products like the one im thinking of.
