I have recently purchased a Pioneer 106 DVD writer. However when I try to plug it in to my usb port, I get the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. My computer runs on Microsoft XP (Service pack2) I have been advised that it may be service pack 2 that is causing the problem. I have tried to run a firmware patch however to do this the DVD writer has to be plugged in, which is impossible as I get the BSOD everytime I plug it in. Would appreciate some advice and guidance. Thanks

Hmm, that is a weird problem. Have you tried plugging it in in safemode and installing them?
Press F8,or F12 while computer is booting up, and choose safemode. I think USB devices should work, and you can try to update the firmware.
Though the firmware for the drive itself shouldn't be the problem if its going into blue screen as you plug it in :S
Have you tried it in another USB port by any chance?
