Duel Core Processor

Hello, I'm new to these forums and this might sound like a stupid question to some of you people but I'm buying a new laptop and was wondering is a 1.66 Ghz duel core faster then a 1.66Ghz Non Duel Core (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T55000 1.66 Ghz 2 MB Cache)

yes it is, but dual cores dont always "double" the performance of a CPU that is a single core of the same speed. the core that is inside the cpu matters more, for example a 3.0ghz Pentium D is MUCH slower than a 1.9ghz C2D, even though its much slower.

So is this an average processor for gaming or would I need a better processor

It's not very good, no. It should play older games okay, but it won't handle new games well.
