Question Core Duo 2 question???

This might have been asked before but I'm just curious as to what the numbers in the Core Duo 2 mean. For example, what does the "6300" in E6300 mean? does that mean it can perform on par with a processor running at 6.3GHZ? this might be a stupid question and i'm kinda new to some stuff so please forgive me....

Desktop: Dell Dimension E510, 2.5GB RAM, Intel P4 3.0GHZ, 250GB HDD, Windows Vista Premium. Might not be the best, but the old girl is still running good.
