Computer only works without IDE devices...?

Hi!

I am trying to fix up an older computer that just worked the other day. I went to boot it up and it goes past the Video Card thing and the BIOS thing but then right after that, it just leaves a blank white cursor blinking on a white screen (no error message).

So then I tried getting into BIOS, so i rebooted, and pressed DEL at the place to press DEL to enter BIOS, and it brought me to the blinking cursor screen again...

Then I tried taking off all IDE devices and I was able to enter BIOS!

Any ideas why this would be happening?

Os is corrupted. Reformate is the only way man. Happened to me..

hmm no why would it be corrupted os if he hasnt even got to the os boot screen. i had this excate problem with a p1 pc, and all it was the IDE placed the wrong way around in the hdd try turning it around the other way if that try that if stil nothing try resetting cmos on the board and try again
