Computer monitor is white and looks cracked?

My wife shut her latptop and when she opened it a few minutes later the screen is white and appears "cracked"?? It looks like someone shot a window with a bb gun. Is this fatal or is this something that can be fixed? I have never seen a screen do this before? The computer is working fine on an external monitor. We have shut down the laptop and restarted it and it looks the same.

Please give me some insight into this predicament!!
