Computer keeps freezing

i built my computer in the summer of 2009 and i am just now having some problems with it every time i am on it every min or so it will freeze up for a few sec or min depending on what i am doing. its a fast computer i just installed windows 7 on it but it was also doing the same on vista but worse my temps are around 9 c and 30 c with stress test full load can anyone please help me i would like to get it fixed so i can overclock it which i haven't done before. thanks
 
can anyone help i have been monitoring windows task manager while working on my computer and when it freezes my cpu usage goes to 0 to 1 percent thats as high as it gets my physical memory is a 32 percent nothing changes except for the mouse stops moving or the screen will fade to a white and say not responding and its not just the internet its anything i use on my computer please help

Since you said this issue is still happening even after you installed windows 7. I would like to think that this is a hardware problem. You might want to check the capacitors on your motherboard to make sure none of them are leaking. Try swapping the RAM modules in the slots. Process of elimination...

It could be os IF he upgraded from vista.

Memtest is probably the best idea if its an intermittent problem.
 
i did a memtest four at the same time, no errors what else could this be i believe it has to be a hardware issue but i have no idea what is causing it. please help and thank you

i also ran prime 95 and came up with no errors can anyone please help
 
If you believe it is hardware, then run a ubuntu liveCD.

boot off it then go to a terminal and type this: sudo apt-get install wine

it will then install a windows compatibility layer. Stress the hell out of it with prime95/whatever else you can think of and try to make it freeze.

If it doesn't happen, sorry its OS. you will have to format. At least its a free fix.
