Is CHANGE! really necessary?

We had ISA, PCI then AGP now SLI. Also we had IDE, SCSI and now SATA. We have continuously changing motherboards along with continuously changing RAM (30 pins EDO to todays 2340 pins DDR2). The high end products and devices today, will be trash tomorrow. About the only thing that stayed just about standard is the case, which is just about the cheapest component!
Why do computer companies not make devices that we would be able to upgrade like a software; pull out the old (slow) and put the new (fast)device.
Question: Will you always pay to keep your PC up to date, or come to a point where you will be satisfied? .....You presently have a PC that you probably paid big bucks, that you will probably give in a few years from now!

yeah its sad to think about , but its gamers who want smoother performance and developers keep on pushing it till they can reach real life graphics, so everything looks exactly like it would in real life, so you couldnt tell a picture of a normal person from a person in a game. I think thats when people will be "satisfied"

Yeah, I expect that too, and in a way that would be great (racing games for example) yet I've written in a report for college, if this ever happened Violent games of today would be out of the window.

Goverments would not want people to see lifelike people getting mashed up...

I'd probably be satisfied with graphics of CG films... Lifelike grapghics would take too much out of game developement. Computer liek characters for example Sonic would look pretty much off...

Though what I would want games of the future to have is full physics systems, with everything happening as it does in real life. Even up to lip sync (I'ma adriad tho Half life 2 is good in this area, it's not exactly great) and new hard ware will achieve this. Car games for example would be fully realistc, and car manufactureres would allow damage because they know everything would be like it is in real life. I think that is worth aiming for

Don't you think?

I think that's just the way it is. Obviously technology will advance and to keep up with it, we upgrade. Software company's are writing codes so complex now that you'll need a power machine to be able to run the darn thing. That's why software companies list the system requirements on their label.

Correction: Aint they made them quick clip in/out drive bays? Slightly more advanced than just screwing em in like ya used to

if they ever reach that level of graphics, porn, shooting games etc will be aweful but, car games, futuristic :"mech" games will be awesome

I totally agree. When I heard that there was a game coming out called "Playboy: The Mansion", I turned my head in shame. I'm sorry, but how lame can you get. That is the loweset of the low.

I did hear that there is some strategy element involved, though, so, hopefully, it isn't COMPLETE garbage... The soundtrack is supposed to be pretty good as well. But still, with a title like that, it just makes you look at what the world has become.

All this crap makes me mad. I'm perfectly happy with the computers that are available now, but as soon as something better comes along we'll all think what we have is trash, so we'll toss it and pay ridiculous amounts for a new machine with newer and more expensive technology. I don't think there's an end to it.

There most definitely is not an end to it! The world will never stop trying to produce new technology. Technology will be researched to obliterate past technology and take a more efficient, economical approach to everything, which means higher costs in the long run. So, basically, in around 20 years, one dollar will equal probably ten times less than it does now. We'll be paying 10,000 bucks for a nice, new computer instead of 1000 bucks now! Economic cars will be in the 200,000 dollar range! It's scary, really.

Rat boy: whether it is screws or clips, computer wise it won't change a thing. And the case is something you can keep and still stick high end devices without spending a dime. But you may have a $250 motherboard and in a few years you won't be able to stick nothing new on it!
