CD-ROM Reading problem

I'm helping a friend who has an HP tower with a CD-ROM drive with XP Pro OS. The CD drive plays music CDs (invokes Media Player) and I can also see individual tracks using My Computer. However, it can't seem to 'see' any files for regular data or game CDs using My Computer or Windows Explorer. I've checked and changed out the CD cable, I've installed a different CD-ROM drive, checked the control panel to see if Windows is 'seeing' the drive and everything is working fine. I also have checked to see if the file type indicates "show all files." The CD drive is hooked to the second IDE drive as master on the motherboard. I have not tried to hook the CD drive as a slave to the hard drive. Should I do that or what else could I try. Thanks for any help. dakotajim

ok, try this...click on my comp./ go to your cd drive icon,
and right click it/ then cd tab/ then in box scroll to data cd/ then choose the option you want to open cd with.
