Can clonezilla do backup image and restore too?

Another forum member was asking a different question about clonezilla, and it reminded me that I had a question about it that I was wondering about just a few days ago. Can clonezilla make compressed backup images of your hard drive that you can boot to some type of rescue CD and restore the image of your hard drive like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image can do? Or does clonezilla only make exact copies (clones) of the hard drive?
