Built a computer, hard drive problem

I put the computer together and when i start up to set up the BIOS it says no hard drive detected, I have all the cables hooked up to it but it still doesn't detect it. What's the problem here? Also, to set up BIOS do I have to put in the motherboard CD?

First time doing this, sorry for the question.

Edit: It also says express gate is not installed... this is this needed?

Plug the HDD into SATA 0 or 1. I'm not sure what they label the first one. You shouldn't need to set up the BIOS.

Yeah, that fixed the problem. I read in the book and i was like "DOH!".

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to put in the windows installing disk now? Not quite sure what to do from here.

Yes. Because you don't have an OS installed I don't think you will need to switch the boot order. Go ahead and pop it in. Don't forget to format NTFS style.

How long does it stay at the blue window screen? I've been watching it for 10 minutes now... I'm trying to install vista btw.

I've never installed Vista, but for me blue window screen means 1 of 3 things:

1) Formatting
2) Loading basic drivers
3) BSOD!!!!!!!

I just don't want it to be sitting there. and it's not that blue screen it's the vista blue screen
