BIOS Question about HDD

I have purchased a Seagate 250gb HDD. I have installed it in my Gateway P III computer (384MB Ram; 500 MHZ; I am running Windows XP Professional) but it is only recognizing it as a 128gb drive. I want to get the full functionality of this drive (that is the reason why I purchased it). I figure it has something to do with my BIOS version. Currently my bios version is a PheonixBios 4.0 Version 6.0.

Does anyone know if updating my BIOS will give me the full functionality of my new HDD?

the reason is that older computer's IDE controllers can take up to 127gb. ill try to find you a fix.
