Is it better to have 3gigs with two of the sticks 512 or just 2gigs with........

Ok, so i have two sticks of 1gig DDR400 ram. And I have another two sticks of 512 DDR400 ram.

I ran a program I forgot what it was called, and I guess i was running faster with the two sticks of 1gig and the two sticks of 512 actually slowed it down..

I forgot what it slowed down in the specs. But I hope ya guys know what I am getting at. It actually didn't slow down perfomance (from what I saw) but in the program that I used it slowed down something.. Sorry cant remember what it was called..

edit: I remember what it was called... It runs at 200MHZ with the two 1gig sticks.

But when I add the two 512mb sticks it drops to 167MHz

so is it better to have 200MHz or more gigs?

Are you using XP?? If so, then I'd definitely go with the 2GB of faster RAM option.

yeah, if you have 3 sticks of 400MHz and 1 stick of 200MHz, all the sticks will run at 200MHz.

I have vista

and they are all DDR400, im not sure of their MHz

I'd probably still go with the 2GB.

When you say DDR400, the 400 represents their MHz. So it looks like the 512 sticks aren't DDR400...
