8600GTS or 9500GT?

Yes were talking low end here.

I have an 8600 GTS in my rig and was given some hardware which included a 9500GT.

Which GPU is better?

The 9500 is slightly more powerful.

Post up a budget and I could find you a card.

Yea I have the 8600GTS hooked up.

I was given an un-used tower today. Inside it was a ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard, PNY 9500GT GPU, Core 2 duo E6600 CPU and 2GB RAM. I'm going to turn it into an ul/dl/folding rig.

I just wondered if it was worth putting the 9500GT in my main rig.

I've got a few bits i'm going to sell on eBay and should get £100-£150 max for a GPU. And I don't mind getting a decent second hand GPU on eBay. I'm hoping to get at least a HD 4870.

oh okay, then put the 9500 in for sure.
Cool, the 4870 is an epic card. There are also some cheap pcb XFX 4890's that are going for next to nothing right now. Look for them, and a 5750/70.

The cheap pcb 4890's won't have voltage control, but they work well at stock.

It's the one with the fan in the center.

There's a hand full of the 4890's available.

But i'd rather go for a decent 4870 if its gonna be more reliable than a XFX 4890?

The reliability really isn't much of an issue, it's the fact that XFX cheaped out and put parts that don't allow for voltage control or overclocking.
