I recently purchased this powersupply.

In the near future I am thinking about getting a HD2900XT video card, I have been reading about them and have discovered they require an 8 pin PCI-E connector.

Is there some kind of adapter or plug that goes into a molex connector to get an 8 pin PCI-E connector, or did I just waste money on this PSU and will not be able to get a 8 pin PCI-E plug?

edit:
I've found these:

is there any downside to using these adaptors or will my PSU work out fine afterall

From what I have seen on most HD2900XT, there are two power connectors, a 8 pin and a 6 pin. You needn't worry though, the video cards come with all needed power and video adapters.

Edit: My bad, they are 6 pin. But as stated above, you'll be fine with your choice of PSU. :D

so the video cards do come with power adapters because the card I am looking at doesnt say if it does and doesnt have adapters in the pictures on newegg

this is the card i'm looking at:

Of the three HD 2900XT 1GB cards, that one doesn't come with the power adapters. But if you look at the pics, it does have both 6 and 8 pin connectors, so you won't need an adapter. I'm not completely sure if you will need to use both connectors on the video card to properly supply it with the power it needs.

I read one review that stated that the 8 pin connection accepts a 6 pin plug, but that prevents you from using AMD's Overdrive overclocking utility.

It looks like the only 8 pin PCIe connector to be found on a PSU is the SILVERSTONE DA750 ATX12V / EPS12V 750W.

I'm thinking that you could contact either OCZ or Sapphire to see if you could get the needed adapters.

I think the power questions has been answerd, but I have one of my own:

Why that card? The 8800s have been proven to be better in just about everything on bench marks.

its easy to mod to get the 8 pin. Take two ground wires and stick them in the empty holes on the video card. The extra wires in the 8 pin connector are just ground wires. They dont' give more power to the card. And the card works with 2 x 6pin. You just can't use overdrive.
