Default Rookie question

I have a website to redesign for a client. I have web development under my belt, but I have one question which is perhaps a rather silly question - How do I go about getting access the website that I need to redesign?

I assume that I need access to the host provider, but do I need to access a specific server address with a password or something? What are the details that I need to ask the client for in order to get started?

It depends on who set up the web page in the first place. If the client set it up him/herself then they should have all the details such as user name, password and hoster to access that web site. If your client engaged someone else to build his website then they may hold the access details and again your client should have those details or at least have access to those details. Bottom line is that it is his web site that he is, presumably, paying for the server space to a hoster to host that website.

Agreed, the client should have all the details/credentials.
