Is the number of MySQL connections important for forum hosting?
How can I find out the exact number of MySQL connections on a shared plan? What if host says it's unimportant and refuses to give exact figures?

I guess it's importnat. But this infop isn't given in the package plans of the web hosting company. You should contact the company directly to get more info about that.

the client machines that look at the forum make connections to the web server not the SQL server

Usually this number is given in the Resource Abuse Policy in the Legal Docs of the host, but I couldn't find anything like that in Hostgator.com or Serverpoint.com plans, where else might it be?
