Default Bose Companion 5 speaker troubles

I wonder if some one could help me with an issue.
I recently purchased a Bose Companion 5 PC Speaker System and they sound fantastic.

The problem I am having is the sound keeps cutting out.I have to un-plug the USB cable and plug it back in again for the sound to come back only to have it cut out again at some point in time. Some times it can happen 2-3 times during a song or some times I can get through a few songs before it happens again.

I am running Window's 7 32 bit and have 4 mgs of ram.
I can't help but wonder if the Bose system is over taxing my PC.
I have even tried only working with one program at a time with the music on but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

any suggestions !
