Cry of fear (Steam game) Co-op

Hello, my and my friend have been trying to play co-op on the new standalone Steam version of Cry of fear. We have gone through a few ways of playing together we have tried hosting a server and joining it (didn't work), we have tried going through hamachi by one of us making a hamachi network the other joining then the person whom made the network creating a server and the other person joining the server through connect (hamachi IP) which also failed when we did lan and not lan, i have seen something about network ports but im not totally sure how it works. I've downloaded tunngle but it says something about my network ports ? can anyone help ? does anyone know how to fix this issue ?
