Wireless routers: Cable vs ADSL

I have cable broadband, and in a brief rush of blood to the head ordered in a wireless router. It's an ADSL router. Is it still possible to set this router up to transmit my cable connection (I'm having issues), or does it have to go back to the shops?

i take it this is a router/modem combo, in which case if you have cable it will have to go back. if its just the router then you should still be able to take an ethernet cable from the modem to the router and hook it up. But yeah, if you post up what modem you have and stuff it would make it easier to tell you for sure.
