ok heres the deal,

I currently have a laptop with centrino technology that has a wireless lan card that supports 802.11b/g. i have broadband in my house through wanadoo (uk). i currently plug my modem into my phone line and to my laptop via usb. what do i need to replace this modem so i can connect to the internet wirelessly. i do not own a pc just a laptop. do i need some sort of router / wireless access point that connects to my bt phone socket and transmits a signall throughout my house.

thanks for your time and help in advance

NO! No wanadoo gear. Its all cheap crap, like the touch modems.

I got wanadoo and within a week, i threw out the usb modem and got a proper always connected one, 4 port ethernet jacks etc. I then got a Link sys kit for around £90 from ebuyer.com

I suggest you do this. You get a 4 port wired router, modem, firewall + wireless adapter via usb. Works very well. Some kits come with the laptop cards too.

my laptop already has a wireless card so i don't need a pack a just need the other end to connect to the phone socket. but what do i want?

When you want to extend the range of your wireless network. Eg.

Router/modem on ground floor.

Access point on 3rd floor which can beam up to the 5th floor.
