WEP and Road Runner Problems

Greetings,

I have a brand new Dell laptop and a Gateway desktop. Today, Road Runner was installed in my house. The desktop is hardwired to the wireless Motorola modem; the laptop is connected via wireless. I can get on my wireless network on my laptop without a problem, but only because the wireless connection isn't secure. I have XP with SPK 2, and everytime I input the WEP in the Wireless Network settings preferences, it disconnects and then re-connects, but the wireless network is still unsecure. It's like it's not saving the WEP info. Any advice?

Usually when you change options in these devices, they have to reboot. If it has rebooted, and still does the same, I would say talk to your ISP- since they were the ones that installed it. It could be a firmware issue with the modem, but if it's not secure, then your network is at risk.
