How to set up a 2 computer network?

I went to all kinds of websites trying to find out how to make a network connection between 2 windows 98 computers, when I thought I had an idea I tried it, but found no success. I want to share my slave hard drive with one computer also maybe a printer too. I need to know what equipment I need, and then how to set it up. I have two 3com ethernet cards, but no cable yet. If I can use these cards then I will go out and find a cable for them. Do I need any other hardware to set up this connection?

If you are only connecting (2) PCs together and no more, you can use a cross-over cable. It looks very close to a CAT5 cable (Ethernet). All you have to do is plug each ends into the (2) PCs. Then, just run through the Network Setup Wizard, and volia! Although, you won't have any internet access (since each PC only has (1) card). If you want internet access as well, I suggest a Linksys router.
