Is it possible to set up a network domain without having a server. Could one be set up on a normal pc connected to a network/lan or Hub ?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think you'll have to have a domain controller in order to have a domain (something to keep track of usernames, workstations, active directory and stuff). Like I said I'm not 100% sure so you may want to get a 2nd opinion.

It's not a domain unless it's client-server.

What you're proposing is peer-to-peer, which is an entirely different setup.

At the min i have cop-to-comp yes, but a router is on its way and i'm building another pc to use as a local server

interedsting, How would you setup the domain controller? lol, I have only used Windows server 2000 and Server 2003 Datacenter edition.

i'm not serious enough to buy winserver or anything like that...its more of a curisity thing...i'm trying to build a pc now which i'll just use as a local server to sort of experiment with and teach myself more about networking...thats when the damn thing will show something on the monitor
