If you don't turn of location services on your smartphone (on by default on many phones such as iPhone) random strangers can track the exact location where you took the picture.

Be very careful when you post pictures, all meta data needs to be cleaned everytime (if you don't disable the service)...

run, they might find you!


and i think 'random stranger' is a bit over-the-top. Your carrier has access to logged location data, my carrier isn't a stranger...

He is refering to iPhones geo-tagging photos. If you uploaded a photo with geotagging enabled, then as the name suggests, they could find out where the picture was taken by looking at the exif data.
