Im looking to buy a decent computer that i can play some games on( nothing high end) and my buddy is selling one of his computer thats jsut collecting dust, its a Dell Dimension 8300
P4 2.8Ghz
1 Gb RAM
75GB Hard drive
and a Nvidia Geforce Fx 5200 video card

Hes trying to sell it to me for 85 dollars, but ill have to replace the CD drive because i guess it doesnt read discs. So is this a good Price for this computer?

Any working computer for $85 is a hell of a deal.

My advice: Buy the computer from your friend. Replace the video card, hard drive, and ram. (Personalize your computer)

yeah i was planning on doing that with income tax money. Whats a decent video card for like 50-100$

I'd jump at that price. A decent graphics card would be that price, but becuase of this computers age, you may run into compatibilty issues.

its the cpu dual core? if not, you prob should buy it if it has a good case, pull the hdd, ram, video card out, and take the motherboard and cpu out and buy a motherboard thats takes latest cpu. and then invest in a quad core or for something cheaper dual core 2.5ghz.

www.ijk.com.au is a cheap site. towers, motherboards, CPU's and etc. usually takes one day to send money to them and then as soon as they send the item it gets to your door by the next day.

I'd definitely grab it, that's a good deal for $85 as the other guys have said. For a GPU, what games are you looking at playing? I had an 8300 and I believe it's AGP, been a while. Let us know so we can help you further with the choice.

i would go with a hd 4650 series if your going with a agp card and bump it up to at least 2 gig of ram depending on weather it uses ddr or ddr2.

At that point you would have a fairly good computer for mild games/video editing if you could get a new hdd for around $50, i would recomend this:

hd 4650: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150433
ram(ddr): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231032
Ram(ddr2): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144358
hdd: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395

I doubt your computer has pcie or ddr2, but if it does you could always get a better video card and ram.
