I have an i3-2310m 2.10ghz laptop at the moment -


I want to move to a desktop machine and considering going to either AMD A10-7850K or Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5-4460 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz) Specifications and wondered which would be better?

The better CPU is the I5.
However it's about 60-70 bucks more expensive and the AMD does have a better inbuilt GPU. So if you are not adding a graphics card and planning on playing some low end games, you should go with the AMD.

I personally would choose the I5 because of the extra performance (about 20%) and the lower usage of wattage. (resulting in lower heating which can also help the noise level from your CPU fan)
But its up to you.

What biker said. The i5 wins by a LARGE margin. But if you just want integrated graphics and don't need/want a dedicated GPU then the AMD chip is the way to go.

Intel has made impressive strides with their on chip graphics. I use an i5 3570K CPU and the on chip graphics (4000) are really, really good.
They have gotten up to the 5500 series now but that's only on the i7's when I last checked.

This is the replacement for my CPU chip. It has the 4600 on chip graphics. The bang for the buck is pretty good.
