Hey guys.

I have a cousin, who is 16. He has a friend who landed in jail ( lol ) and wants to sell his stuff to bail him out. I told him I don't believe he can legally do so. So we made a bet, the court is closed so we can't call them, and google won't bring anything up. So, does anyone know, can a 16 year old pay someones bail on their own? Don't you NEED to be 18 to do that?

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I forgot one point that you may find interesting. The only exception that I know of to the rule above is if the crime was so intense that the judge charged him as an adult. If a minor is facing adult charges then they are allowed to make adult decisions regarding any legal matters involved in the case, including bail.

Failing that, you are going to win the bet. He cannot post his own bail, as he cannot legally even hire his own attorney. A legal guardian (parent or otherwise) must still do all of that for him.
