Shared broadband = spam???

Please can anyone give me a simple yes or no on this - i will have to be imple as I'm hopeless with IT !!!

We have wireless broadband and had a friend to stay recently who used our broadband registration code so he could use the net while here. We've since found out that he was accessing some VERY dubious porn sites while staying, and since he's gone we've started getting pornographic spam in our own email Inboxes

What I need, please, is a simple answer as to whether it's theoretically possible for this to be the result of his own internet use??

That or some site that you're a member of sold off your email.
