Need help with home group

Hi guys I have just set up home group with 2 pc's connected with 1 Ethernet cable now my problem is that it is not transferring data through the cable but it is thought the wireless cards, now I have transferred data between the. Before with the cable but ever since we got a router I cannot do it thought the cable anymore.

Can you guys help me ?

Ps I do not have the pc's connect to the router via cable they are connected to each other .

I think you have to have a crossover cable to do that.
You know. an A type on one end and a B type on the other

I have been reading up on cross over cables and it says you don't need it if you motherboard Ethernet port has crossover or something like that. I can get it working at 100mbps but I have to turn the wireless card off in device manager.

May I ask will the homegroup be just used for file sharing. Why not on one machine make a shared folder and map it on the other computer, Much easier this way and no cross over cables required.
