File server question

Which is a better OS for a file server ubuntu or freeNAS?

Hi,

I guess the simple answer is they both are very good. It all matters on what you want to do with it. If all you want is a file server then you might be fine with FreeNAS but if you ever want to do something else with the box besides hold files then I would go with Ubuntu Server. Also do you know what type of hdd structure you want to have, i.e. RAID?

I agree with morri although I haven't tried freeNAS, I have heard good things about it. Right now I'm running Windows 7 Pro as my file server with Ubuntu as a client on my laptop.
