I agree with power supplies but HDDs are pretty durrable in terms of their moving parts. So long as they haven't been dropped used ones are pretty dependable.

As a side note, I did buy a an old rental car. 1 year old Rav4 and have had no issues with it in the year I've had it

Rental car. You know what they say about those? Rental cars can go through ANYTHING. Unstoppable. At least, that's how they are treated...
