How to partition disk in Windows 7?

I just bought a new Sony VAIO laptop, comes with 650GB HD. I was wandering how I can resize the C drive (it only came with one drive)? I only need around 80-100GB in C, and the rest in D drive where I store all my non-system files. When I go to disk management, it says I'm only able to shrink C by 300GB, leaving it with approximately 300GB, and I don't need that much space in C. It mentions something about "can only shrink up to the point when it meets an unmovable file". What does that mean exactly and how can I partition C? I already defragmented C, and it still produces that message.
