Can't forward messages

When I get an e-mail from any friend, that I want to forward, using the different options of forwarding we have, I get a pop up that reads; SEND MESSAGE ERROR - Sending of message failed. Please verify that your Mail and Newsgroups accounts settings are correct. I have Windows XP, The latest version of Thunderbird. What do I need to do to enable me to forward these messages. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you able to send email at all? I would say that your SMTP settings are incorrect.

Yes I can send e-mails.

Try a reinstall of of Thunderbird with a CCleaner sweep between uninstall/reinstall.

I uninstalled Thunderbird, then used ccleaner,nothing has changed. Any suggestions?
